Leading business journalist Ruth Sunderland will be speaking at the annual Birmingham City University PR Masterclass Programme.

She will be speaking on 29th May and will discuss the ‘seven deadly sins’ committed within the PR industry.

Ruth is the current associate editor of the Daily Mail and has over 20 years of experience within the business.

Coordinator and student Alister Foye said:

“This really is a rare opportunity to hear from a current national media heavyweight in the only talk she is giving this year, anywhere.”

This talk is part of the second annual BCU PR Masterclass season, an initiative which gives students the opportunity to hear from senior practitioners both from public relations and journalism.

The BCU PR Masterclass has had an array of high-profile speakers previously such as Russ Brady, head of group PR at The Co-operative Group, and Graeme Brown, head of business, Birmingham Post & Mail.

Alister said:

“Controversial to some, Ruth will be giving examples of the worst behaviour her and her colleagues have experienced from PR people – the 7 deadly sins.

“The point of the talk is not to castigate PR people, more to point out their worst mistakes so they can be avoided.

“As we expect interest from BCU journalism students too, Ruth will turn her attention to the bad habits of journalists too.”

The Masterclass is being held on Friday 29th May, 2-3pm in the Millennium Point Lecture Theatre, room MP452.
